Passengers can look forward to receiving reimbursements for cancelled flights faster
COVID-19 RESULTS IN LONG WAIT FOR REIMBURSEMENTS
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many passengers are experiencing a long wait on reimbursements for their cancelled flight tickets. In general, The European regulation on air passengers’ rights states that passengers have the right to receive reimbursements for flight tickets within 7 days, when a flight is cancelled. Due to the circumstances, TBST has shown understanding for the air carriers who have not been able to comply with the regulation due to a great number of complaints/requests for reimbursement from passengers.
NEW STEP TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE WITH THE REGULATION
In order to ensure the passengers rights to reimbursement, the Authority have now announced a new enforcement step to ensure compliance with the Regulation. In the announcement TBST proclaims that they from now on will issue orders against air carriers with more than 50 complaints submitted to the Authority, in which the air carriers will be obliged to handle their cases of reimbursement for flight tickets within a deadline set by TBST.
The airlines will, however, be able to comment on their commitment to ensure the passengers reimbursement before the orders are issued. If the airline does not comply with the injunction issued by the Authority, the Authority will assess whether to proceed to public prosecution.
TBST WILL HANDLE ALL COMPLAINTS FROM NOW ON
Along with the orders, TBST will continue handling all complaints that have been submitted to the Authority.
TBST states, that it is their expectation that the orders will ensure that passengers will receive their reimbursements before the Authority can decide in the individual complaints submitted to the Authority. If this is the case, TBST encourages the passengers to inform the Authority, after which TBST will finalize the complaint.
