New Act on the consequences of the abolishment of Great Prayer Day as a public holiday

As of 1 January 2024, Great Prayer Day will no longer be considered a public holiday in Denmark, but instead a normal business day. This will have an impact on all employees who previously had a day off or received compensatory time off on Great Prayer Day as they will now be required to work one extra day during the year.

Update on the proposed act on employment contracts

The proposed act on employment contracts and certain working conditions, which implements the European Parliament and Council Directive (EU) on transparent and predictable working conditions from 2019, was submitted for consideration on 29 March, and underwent its first reading on 13 April 2023. It is now scheduled for a second reading on 9 May, 2023, and a third reading on 11 May 2023.

New proposed law aims to strengthen conditions for international recruitment

On 9 February 2023, the Minister for Immigration and Integration presented a proposed law to amend the Immigration Act. The proposal aims to implement the political agreement that the former government reached with several parties in the Folketing (the Danish parliament) in June 2022, which focuses on strengthening conditions for international recruitment in Denmark.

Proposed law for sexual harassment is now presented

In March 2022, the former government and labor market parties entered into a three-party agreement that, among other things, aims to strengthen efforts against sexual harassment in Danish workplaces. However, several initiatives to combat sexual harassment in the workplace require amendments to both the Equal Treatment, Occupational Health and Safety, and Vocational Education Laws, which have now been formally presented in a proposed law on February 1st, 2023.
