Meet Cecilie

What began as HR ambitions in Paris has led Cecilie to employment law at LES, where she now works as a student assistant.

Cecilie is currently studying cand.merc.jur. at CBS. However, her path there was not entirely planned. While living and working in Paris during her gap year, she was originally convinced that she wanted to pursue a career in HR. But shortly before the application deadline, she changed her priorities and decided to give commercial law a chance.

“I had both read and heard good things about the programme. So, at the last minute, I changed my priorities. When I was accepted, I thought I had to give it a proper try, because I did not know whether I would like it until I had tried it. Then we had contract law at our very first lecture, and I loved it,” she says.

I had both read and heard good things about the programme. So, at the last minute, I changed my priorities.

Today, Cecilie works with employment law, an area that quickly caught her interest.

“It deals with situations that most people can recognise from their own lives. That is why I find it both relevant and very close to real life, and it gives me the opportunity to help others,” Cecilie explains.

Her interest in employment law began during her first student job, where she worked with employment contracts. She later applied specifically to LES, as she had the impression that it was a place where strong professional expertise and a good sense of collegial community go hand in hand.

“I really wanted to work at LES, and I applied several times. I had the idea that it was a great place to work and a well-regarded firm, but still of a size where you could get to know all your colleagues,” she says.

I really wanted to work at LES, and I applied several times.

Today, Cecilie’s tasks are varied. She works with aviation cases, immigration matters, employment law issues and preparation for litigation.

“I have a wide range of tasks, and it can feel a bit hectic at times. But that is also what makes the job exciting. I do something different today than I did yesterday,” she says.

A regular part of her day involves aviation cases, where she monitors deadlines, assesses cases and prepares drafts of procedural documents.

“If we need to defend a case, I prepare draft statements of defence and other procedural documents, which I then send to a lawyer in the department for review and comments. It is very interesting, and you learn a great deal from it,” Cecilie explains.

For Cecilie, it is not only the work itself that makes LES a place she enjoys being.

“It is both the tasks and the social aspect that have made me stay at LES for so long. If you are looking for a workplace with strong social connections, I would definitely recommend LES. I think we have something special here,” she says.

She highlights in particular the sense of community among students and assistant attorneys, where colleagues often meet for lunch, Friday drinks or social events outside work.

“I feel that I really get to know my colleagues well. For me, several of them have become friends,” Cecilie concludes.
